The process of creating the abstract face painting Melting Soul

I start with red acrylic ink and lay down the basic shape using the dropper top. Then I spray it with water. I love the little spray marks this makes. Next I draw with charcoal and apply matt medium with a sponge roller. This creates a grungy texture. For the highlights I use white acrylic paint which I apply with a sponge brush, which forces me to be bold and loose. Then the detail is added with Neocolor wax pastels.

I never quite know how each piece is going to look. I use a normal face as a reference for the shapes of the features and the shadows. Then I just use my imagination and see what happens. I never quite know who will appear on the page, it's like meeting someone new every time.
